President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the establishment of a new Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth in South Africa.
The council is part of the 7th administration’s commitment to job creation and addressing the country’s economic challenges.
It will provide critical economic advice and support in crafting policies that respond to domestic and global economic challenges.
The PEAC, an independent, non-statutory body, comprises a diverse mix of local and international experts from academia, the private sector, labour, and civil society. Members will serve voluntarily, advising the President on crafting economic policies that address both domestic and global issues.
The council, which will be chaired by Ramaphosa himself, will focus on promoting economic policies that foster inclusive growth and will draw on expertise across a wide range of economic disciplines, from macroeconomics and fiscal policy to labour economics, poverty, inequality, and urban development.
