SAA’s flight schedule was back to normal on Sunday following a two-day strike by over 100 pilots over salary increases.
The strike led to the cancellation of nearly half of the carrier’s flights on its first day.
The pilots suspended the mass action on Saturday after the SA Pilots Association, the National Transport Movement and SAA management reached a conditional agreement. It included a 9.47% wage settlement.
The pilots latest demand was around 15%.
SAA spokesperson Vimla Maistry said: “The resolution by SAA executive management to offer pilots an additional 1% increase, resulted in a total salary increase of 9.4%. The airline extends it heartfelt gratitude to our valued customers for their patience, understanding and support during this period.”
The association’s initial demand in May was a 30% increase in pilot salaries, which was subsequently reduced to 15.7%, including associated benefits.
The airline flew 51% of planned flights on Thursday, including only just over 30% of its international flights.
