The bail application of the man accused of murdering popular media personality DJ Warras has been postponed, with the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court adjourning the matter to next Tuesday.
Victor Majola, who faces charges of premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder, briefly appeared in court on Tuesday, where proceedings were postponed to allow for the formal bail application to be heard.
Majola was arrested in December, just days after DJ Warras, whose real name was Warrick Stock, was gunned down in the Johannesburg central business district.
Majola was last in court on 24 December, when the matter was postponed to give the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) time to verify his residential address.
The NPA has since confirmed that it will oppose bail, citing the seriousness of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Majola was arrested at a hostel in Soweto following an intensive police investigation into the fatal shooting.
He is accused of being involved in a planned hit, with the State alleging that the murder was premeditated and involved more than one person.
Police have previously indicated that other suspects may have played a role in the crime, although no further arrests have been confirmed at this stage.
Charges against a second accused, a woman who was arrested alongside Majola at the Soweto hostel, were withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.
The NPA has stressed that the investigation remains ongoing.
Majola’s legal representative previously informed the court that his client intends to apply for bail and alleged that Majola was assaulted by police during his arrest.
The State has not yet responded to these allegations in open court.
DJ Warras was shot and killed on 16 December outside the Zambesi House building in the Johannesburg CBD.
The killing sent shockwaves through the South African entertainment industry and sparked widespread public outrage, with fans, colleagues and political figures calling for swift justice.
The case has drawn increasing public and political attention.
ActionSA Johannesburg regional leaders, including chairperson Councillor Themba Mabunda, regional secretary Councillor Lebo Mokoka and regional spokesperson Councillor Phiwokuhle Xulu, attended the proceedings.
The party has publicly opposed the granting of bail, arguing that the seriousness of the offence and the interests of justice require Majola to remain in custody.
Meanwhile, DJ Warras’s family has appealed for national solidarity as the legal process unfolds.
The Stock family called on South Africans to unite under the #LoveYouBye movement, which they say is aimed at honouring Warrick’s life while supporting a fair and transparent judicial process.
Describing DJ Warras as “the heart and anchor” of his family, they said his legacy as a devoted father, son and brother would continue to inspire those he touched through his music and television work.
