The pre-trial hearing of Vusimusi ‘Cat’ Matlala and his co-accused, including his wife Tsakane, has been postponed.
Matlala, alongside his wife, Tsakane will return to court on 6 February, when judges are expected to decide whether he can be detained in Gauteng.

Matlala is currently facing trial at the Johannesburg High Court for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and money laundering.
He’s accused of orchestrating a 2023 shooting on the N1 highway near Sandton that left his ex-girlfriend, actress Tebogo Thobejane, injured.
Matlala, who has been linked to the so-called “Big Five” cartel, is facing multiple attempted murder charges.

The matter has been escalated to the Johannesburg High Court after prosecutors consolidated the cases, due to the seriousness of the allegations.
Matlala has appointed a new legal team to handle the proceedings. He remains incarcerated at the eBongweni Supermax Correctional Centre in Kokstad, one of South Africa’s most secure prisons, while the courts weigh jurisdictional and procedural issues.
Matlala’s lawyer has pleaded with the court to intervene on his imprisonment at Ebongweni.
