The Multi-Party Charter for SA has officially welcomed the addition of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) as the latest and 8th member of the Charter.
During a media briefing and signing ceremony held in Parliament on Thursday, the Charter officially welcomed its eighth member and all eight party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the vision of a new government to build a just, inclusive and prosperous SA based on opportunity, freedom and security for all of its citizens.
Earlier this year, a group of seven opposition parties, including the DA, IFP, FF+, ActionSA, Isanco, UIM and the Spectrum National party gathered for a two-day convention in Kempton Park to form a bloc in an attempt to unseat the ANC in next year’s elections.
ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe confirmed that this was not a coalition, and said that it was rather a group of opposition parties on standby and ready to unseat the ANC.
Meshoe said that the Charter was intended to facilitate the laying down of a framework and rules which was expected to govern a possible coalition only after the elections next year, should it be deemed necessary.

The leader said that the ACDP will not form a coalition with the DA or any other political party before the upcoming elections.
“We are not forming a coalition today, I want to reiterate and reassure all our ACDP members and supporters that we will not form a coalition before the 2024 elections, as alleged, but only after the elections, if that is deemed necessary,” Meshoe said.
