THE Senzo Meyiwa trial, currently underway in Pretoria, has not been without drama following the dramatic arrest of advocate Dan Teffo, who represents four of the accused.

While details of his arrest remain sketchy, it has been alleged that Teffo has been arrested for missing a court appearance for an unrelated case.

According to Newzroom Afrika’s Tshegohaco Moagi who has been following the case closely and had been in court when members of the South African Police Service arrested Teffo, the advocate allegedly said that he had been intimidated by the police and that police minister Bheki Cele allegedly doesn’t want him involved in the football star’s case.

Teffo has alleged that the police failed to read his rights to him before taking him into custody and that they did not inform of the charges against him.

Meanwhile, the police allegedly told those who present in court that they have been sitting with a warrant for Teffo’s arrest since January, though it remains unclear why it has taken the officials so long to detain the advocate today while in court and performing his duties.

Since the Meyiwa trial resumed this month, Teffo has been hero-worshiped for carrying the hopes of the South Africans who have been eagerly waiting to see an end to the mystery surrounding the ex-Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana shot-stopper’s death since 2014.

A number of people on social media have found it hard to believe that the five men in court for Meyiwa’s death are the real killers.

The trial has been postponed to 30 May 2022.
