THE ANC’s 55th national conference has been delayed due to the late registration of delegates from various provinces across the country, party spokesperson Pule Mabe announced on Friday.
Mabe said the opening session of the national conference, earlier scheduled to start at 8h30am, had not started by 1pm on Friday afternoon.
“Delegates whose membership had not been paid were categorized as members not n good standing. Efforts will be made to categorized as non-voting delegates.
The ANC is meeting in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg, to elect new national leaders.
Similar registration chaos emerged at several provincial conferences across the country, including Eastern Cape and Gauteng.
In the Free State, the home of suspended ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule, the divisions were so deep that the provincial conference failed to host the provincial conference.
Magashule on Friday was barred from entering the conference venue due to registration issues.
