ANC members, commonly known as the radical economic transformation (RET) forces, staged a protest outside Luthuli House in support of the party’s secretary-general, Ace Magashule.

This follows a report earlier this week by IOL online news that an arrest warrant has been issued for Magashule.

The Hawks dismissed the report as fake news.

Magashule’s supporters say an alleged arrest warrant against the secretary general was aimed at targeting Mgashule and settle political scores.

Magashule supporters called for the National General Council (NGC) to be held urgently.

The ANC cancelled the NGC after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a national state of disaster in March.

Magashule supporters are pushing for the NGC as part of efforts to recall Ramaphosa as ANC president, alleging he has allegedly failed to implement Nasrec conference resolutions, including the nationalisation of the SA Reserve Bank and land expropriation without compensation.

“The Hawks is orchestrating charges which are frivolous against secretary-general and we know that there are politics at play which speak to that,” one of the leaders of the march said.

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe has dismissed the allegations and called on members to use party structures to voice grievances.

Meanwhile, former Free State Social Economic Development MEC Mxolisi Dukwana said Magashule must face the music.

“He must face his time and answer to a number of other things. We might not be saying, “he is guilty” but surely he has to answer. Failure to act is actually an offence. If there are problems in moral decision-making processes, you must face the music,” Dukwana said.
