Crime Intelligence head Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo has welcomed the withdrawal of fraud and corruption charges against him and six co-accused.
National Director of Public Prosecutions Andy Mothibi formally withdrew the charges, which stemmed from the June 2025 arrests linked to the appointment of Brigadier Dineo Mokwele.

Khumalo and senior officials had been accused of manipulating recruitment processes, with prosecutors alleging Mokwele lacked proper qualifications and security clearance.
The co-accused freed alongside Khumalo include Brigadier Mokwele, Major General Philani Lushaba, Nosipho Madondo, Josias Lekalakala, Zwelithini Gabela, and Brigadier Phindile Ncube.
The withdrawal follows testimony from former Investigating Directorate head Andrea Johnson, who indicated the investigation was rushed and incomplete.
Evidence confirmed Mokwele was qualified for the role and further suggested the arrests were part of an internal power struggle aimed at sidelining senior police
