City of Joburg mayor Dada Morero announces new mayoral committee

NEWLY elected Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero has announced the new members of the city’s mayoral committee.

Morero said the appointment of the new mayoral committee marks an important day in the history of Johannesburg.

“As we put together a team of men and women, we must be cognisant of the challenges that face us,” Morero said.

“As we take on this task, we must put the people of Johannesburg at the centre of development and service delivery.”

“The core of our Growth and Development Strategy is grounded by people, service delivery and developmental outcomes.”

“This informed the collective view of who should constitute the Mayoral Committee.”

“To the residents of Johannesburg, I would like to assure them that this was not a power-sharing exercise, but the coming together of different skills, capabilities and experience.”

“Collectively as different parties we are united by the love we have for Johannesburg and its people.”

The Patriotic Alliance (PA), who played an instrumental role to oust the DA mayor, was awarded two MMC positions.

The team comprises of five members of the ANC and five others from the smaller parties.

The city’s new finance MMC is African Independent Congress (AIC) councillor Margaret Arnolds.

Ashley Sauls and Anthea Natasha Leitch from the PA are now in charge of transport and housing respectively.

Al Jama-ha’s Thapelo Amad was appointed MMC for development planning, while African Transformation Movement (ATM) Lubabalo Magwentshu bagged MMC for community development.

The new MMC will be sworn-in on Monday morning at the Connie Bapela Council Chambers.

The new leadership is as follows:

  2. Group Corporate and Shared Services Cllr. Loyiso Masuku
  3. Transport Cllr. Ashley Sauls
  4. Development Planning Cllr. Thapelo Amad
  5. Housing Cllr. Anthea Natasha Leitch
  6. Economic Development Cllr. Nomoya Mnisi
  7. Health and Social Development Cllr. Eunice Mgcina
  8. Community Development Cllr. Lubabalo Magwentshu
  9. Environment, Infrastructure and Service Delivery Cllr. Mpho Sesedinyane
  10. Public Safety Cllr. Jack Sekwaila
