THE Democratic Alliance (DA)’s Alan Winde has been elected for a second term as Premier of the Western Cape.
In a session of the provincial legislature on Thursday, Winde was sworn in as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) and elected as Premier, after receiving 26 out of 42 votes.
The African National Congress (ANC)’s candidate Muhammad Khaled Sayed, came in second, with 14 votes in his favour.
In his speech, Winde thanked the legislature for their support and admitted that more needed to be done in the province.
“It is a profound honour and privilege that I have been given. In my first term of office, we achieved so much in our efforts to address the wicked problems facing this province, but I know that many of those still remain,” he said.
