MAMELODI Sundowns announced on Sunday the untimely passing of Alex Shakoane, the football club’s long-serving Communications Manager and dedicated supporter.
According to media reports, Shakoane passed away on Sunday following a short battle with a stroke.
In a media statement, the club expressed its profound sadness upon receiving the news of his passing, stating that Shakoane had a deep love for Mamelodi Sundowns and was a committed servant of football in Mamelodi, Tshwane, and the entire South Africa.
Having been involved in Sundowns since its inception in the 1970s, his contribution to the club and football as a whole cannot be overstated.
The chairman of Mamelodi Sundowns, Tlhopie Motsepe said in a statement: “The Motsepe family, the Board, the Supporters and all the members of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family mourn and are deeply saddened by the passing of Alex” Goldfinger” Shakoane whom we all loved dearly. Bra Alex’s life was all about Mamelodi Sundowns and we will miss his unique contributions and larger than life personality.”

Motsepe said Shakoane, affectionately known as the Goldfingers, will forever live in the hearts and minds of all “Masandawana … Robala ka kgotso Shakwane ‘a Kgomo Le Motho!”
Orlando Pirates football club management said the passing of Shakoane was saddening.
“On behalf of the extended @orlandopirates family, we convey our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the Shakoane family,” it said in a statement.
Premier Soccer League also sent condolences to his family and the football loving supporters across the country.
