A Lululemon dress has the internet divided. While not the first time the brand has gone mega-viral — Lululemon’s belt bag repeatedly sold out after being featured in countless videos on TikTok and Instagram — this time there’s some controversy involved.
So what exactly is the item that’s causing such a stir? It’s the Lululemon 2-in-1 Maxi Dress. The dress caught many people’s eyes thanks to its convertible design: it can be worn as a maxi dress or with the top folded down, as a skirt.
While some people are amazed by the versatile design, with TikTok users saying it’s “totally worth it” and lives up to the hype, others (some of our own editors included) are surprised to see the style go viral, arguing that the style may not be the most flattering and that similar (and cheaper) versions have been around for a while.
So below, we’re sharing everything you need to know about the dress that’s selling out, including similar styles that you can shop now.
The dress, which is currently sold out in all sizes except XL in its one available colorway, is said to be perfect for casual wear.
The upper part is designed with Lululemon’s Nulu fabric and the skirt is made with a silk blend. It is said to have a four-way stretch and be sweat-wicking and quick-drying, to keep you comfortable as you move through hot summer days.
Right now it’s only in stock in Light Ivory though we’re hopeful it comes back in stock in the other colorways it was available in.
It’s made to be pretty form-fitting up top, with the skirt portion hitting around your ankle. Some shoppers say that its worth sizing up for the perfect fit.
The convertible design is by far the most raved-about feature among shoppers. To turn it from a dress into a skirt, all you need to do is fold down the top portion.
“I love this maxi dress. I love that I can wear it as a dress (no bra needed) or a skirt,” one shopper wrote.
“The fabric is amazing, it flows beautifully and the length is perfect! It is going to be my new go-to, travel dress.”
It seems like it will work well on a range of body types, as shoppers of all sizes have given it a perfect five-star review. “This dress is incredible,” another person wrote.
“Wore it for 6 hours comfortably and without a bra (I’m a DD). It has looked amazing on every body type I’ve seen try it on and it’s incredibly comfortable and soft.”
However, the controversy lies in the fact that some people on the internet have been noting that the style is nothing new and the Lululemon version is more expensive and not necessarily the most flattering dress out there — but clearly others disagree.
