Police have launched a manhunt for more than 10 suspects after 12 people were murdered and at least nine others wounded in a mass shooting at Jumpers Informal Settlement in Cleveland, Johannesburg, on Tuesday night.
SAPS said on Wednesday morning that officers responded at about 23:10 on Tuesday to a complaint of a shooting in progress at the informal settlement.
“Upon arrival, police found numerous victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services were immediately summoned to the scene to assist the injured.”
Eight adult men and three adult women were declared dead at the scene, while another male victim later died in hospital.
At least nine other victims were taken to various medical facilities for treatment.
According to police, more than 10 suspects were allegedly dropped off by a white Toyota Quantum near a petrol station in Cleveland before entering the informal settlement.
