THE Department of Water and Sanitation said it will work with the Municipal Infrastructure Agency and National Treasury to address the key findings of the Blue and No Drop report on the worst-performing municipalities released on Tuesday.
The report found there has been a decline in the performance of many municipal drinking water systems since the last report in 2014.
Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu said part of the action plan to help struggling municipalities was to provide grants worth more than R20 billion.
“Despite all the support being provided to municipalities, the Drop reports indicate that water services continue to decline, and that fundamental reform is required to arrest and turn around the decline in municipal water and sanitation services.
