ANC head of economic transformation commission Mmamoloko Kubayi says delegates agreed that loadshedding is a threat to national security and stability in the country.

Kubayi was addressing the media at the ANC’s 55th national elective conference.

“Delegates agreed that loadshedding is crippling the economy and affecting social stability and national security,” Kubayi said.

She said delegates spent considerable time discussing ways of how to improve the performance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), particularly Eskom.

On energy and just transition, Kubayi said:

“We acknowledge that there is a need to implement a just-energy transition at a pace that will not cripple the economy.”

Kubayi said delegates acknowledged the need to transition from high-carbon to low-carbon.

She said delegates also agreed that Eskom should be run efficiently and be allowed to play its role in the development of the country and its economy.
