Mpho Madi wins national KINTO graffiti competition

KINTO South Africa has crowned Mpho Madi as the winner of its inaugural Legacy Meets Future graffiti competition, securing his place as the artist set to transform the company’s headquarters into a cultural landmark.

The competition challenged South Africa’s boldest contemporary artists to interpret the dialogue between the legendary vintage Toyota Hilux and the new 2026 Hilux.

After a rigorous judging process led by celebrated fine artist and curator Seth “African Ginger” Pimentel, five finalists were shortlisted: Mpho Madi, Rob Crawford, Chow Mein, Michael Leggat and Bodwa Khuzwayo.

The winner was selected through a combination of public voting and input from the judging panel, with Madi’s concept ultimately chosen as the standout.

As the winner, Madi receives a prize package valued at R35,000, including a R20,000 commission fee and R15,000 materials allowance to execute the mural at KINTO SA HQ. Work on the installation begins on 12
