KINTO South Africa has crowned Mpho Madi as the winner of its inaugural Legacy Meets Future graffiti competition, securing his place as the artist set to transform the company’s headquarters into a cultural landmark.

The competition challenged South Africa’s boldest contemporary artists to interpret the dialogue between the legendary vintage Toyota Hilux and the new 2026 Hilux.

After a rigorous judging process led by celebrated fine artist and curator Seth “African Ginger” Pimentel, five finalists were shortlisted: Mpho Madi, Rob Crawford, Chow Mein, Michael Leggat and Bodwa Khuzwayo.

The winner was selected through a combination of public voting and input from the judging panel, with Madi’s concept ultimately chosen as the standout.

As the winner, Madi receives a prize package valued at R35,000, including a R20,000 commission fee and R15,000 materials allowance to execute the mural at KINTO SA HQ. Work on the installation begins on 12 June 2026.

“South Africa has no shortage of raw, extraordinary talent, and this competition proved exactly that,” said Seth Pimentel, head Judge.

“Every submission showed conviction, but Mpho’s concept embodied the theme. Watching Legacy Meets Future come alive on the walls of KINTO SA HQ will be a milestone for the local street art community.”

“The Toyota Hilux has always been more than just a utility vehicle, it’s a symbol of South African grit, resilience, and spirit,” said André Coppejans, General Manager: Sales and Marketing at KINTO South Africa.

“Mpho’s artwork captures that transition flawlessly, and we couldn’t be prouder to permanently integrate her vision into the heart of our corporate home.”

For Madi, the win represents more than just recognition.

“This mural is about honouring where we come from while imagining where we’re going. To have my work become part of KINTO SA’s identity is a dream come true,” he said.
