MZWANELE Manyi, a former government spokesperson, has announced that he is joining the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as a grassroots member and is encouraging other black professionals to join as well.

Manyi’s decision to join the EFF came as a surprise to many when he made the announcement on Friday.

He joined the African Transformation Movement (ATM) in 2019 after leaving the ANC. He was ATM’s NEC member, and chief of policy and strategy.

“Today I join the Revolution Movement, EFF as a card-carrying member, to make a contribution in freeing South Africa from neo-colonialism; rampant corruption; and to rescue the country from the imminent failed state situation,” said Manyi.

He said the EFF being the third largest political party in the country is “the only organisation well poised to save South Africa the failed state it finds itself- the corruption level is beyond proportion.”

“More importantly, you cannot continue to have South Africa that is a neo-colonial state where we are puppets of the West. EFF is the only organisation that can bring sanity to the country.”

He called on all professionals in various sectors to join the EFF and lend a hand.

“I will be doing road shows to encourage the professionals to come and deposit their ideas into the EFF as a ground force of the EFF. I do not have any position,” he said.

Manyi said he will be conducting roadshows targeting business people.

“If you are a business person and you have not understood the EFF- this will be your chance,” he said.

“My purpose is to mobilise professionals, to mobilise communities, is to mobilise businesses”

EFF leader Julius Malema welcomed many to the party and said he hopes that he will soon be welcoming former President Jacob Zuma to the party.

“On behalf of our EFFS ground forces, I want to take this opportunity to welcome fighter Mzwanele Manyi to his political home. We are honoured to have you as part of our family; remember, we are one people of the African continent. Your credentials speak volumes,” he said.

EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu said: “Welcome to the revolutionary economic emancipation movement Fighter Mzwanele. We are more than confident that you will add maximum value to the only reliable and dependable weapon in the hands of the oppressed and exploited masses of our people. Let’s fight on! Victory.”

Former party chairperson Adv Dali Mpofu said: Welcome aboard Mhlekazi!! This is a step which EVERY freedom loving & true African, broadly defined, should take if we are to stand ANY chance of shaking off the yoke of colonialism, apartheid, landlessness, racism, and economic subjugation.

ATM Spokesperson Zama Ntshona said the party has received and accepted the resignation of Manyi.

“The ATM notes the contribution of Mr. Manyi towards the politics of the country. ATM wishes Mr Manyi all the best with his future endeavours,” he said.

Manyi, who is currently the Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson, is former Black Management Forum President and Progressive Business Professionals.

He is a Harward university graduate with more than 20 years corporate experience.
