Public figure and social media influencer Ngizwe Mchunu has been ordered by the South Gauteng High Court, sitting as an Equality Court, to issue a public apology, undergo human rights training, and pay R250,000 after it found that his conduct amounted to hate speech, harassment, and unfair discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people.
In a judgment handed down on Friday, Judge Gregory Wright ruled that a series of social media posts published by Mchunu last year violated provisions of equality and anti-discrimination legislation.
“The twelve videos and the flyer published by the first respondent (‘Mr Mchunu’) on his Facebook page between 30 September and 6 October 2025 constitute hate speech, harassment and unfair discrimination against gay, lesbian and transgender people, in contravention of sections 10, 11 and 6 of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 2000,” Wright ruled.
