President Cyril Ramaphosa urged employers on Wednesday to allow workers to go and vote on May 8 2019.
Ramaphosa was speaking at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, KwaZulu-Natal.
“We call on employers who prevent workers from going to vote to desist from this. Allow voters to vote on 8 May,” said Ramaphosa.
“We’ve heard employers who are hell-bent on preventing workers from voting. Do not stop workers from going to vote. It is their democratic right. Stop violating the rights of workers.”
Ramaphosa also called on companies to implement the national minimum wage for all workers in South Africa.
All companies must implement the national minimum wage without delay so that workers can start moving from poverty wages towards a living wage,” said Ramaphosa.
