President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced three proposed investments worth about R105.8 billion in the Free State, with the projects expected to create thousands of jobs as the government seeks to revive industrial activity in a province struggling with deteriorating infrastructure and unreliable municipal services.
Speaking at the Free State Catalytic Investment and Industrialisation Launch in QwaQwa on Friday, Ramaphosa said manufacturing businesses had closed or relocated because of challenges including poor infrastructure and unreliable services.
He said addressing these problems was essential to attracting investment and restoring the province’s position as a manufacturing hub.
“To attract the investment to this area, government is committed to providing reliable electricity and water provision, functioning roads, safe industrial premises, efficient approvals and accountable project management,” Ramaphosa said.
The three proposed projects are a R100 billion renewable energy development by YJC, a R5.5 billion Joylong automotive manufacturing facility and a R330
