PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to give evidence at the South African Human Rights Commission National Investigative Hearing into the 2021 July unrest.
He will testify at the commission on Friday as part of his responsibilities as President of the Republic of South Africa.
Last year, chaos broke out in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng when former president Jacob Zuma was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment after being found guilty for being in contempt of court.
The July unrest claimed more than 300 lives.
The human rights commission launched the hearing to find the causes of the unrest and assess its impact on human rights.
The SAHRC spokesperson Gushwell Brooks has confirmed Ramaphosa’s appearance at the commission on Friday.
“The President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, will appear before the Hearing Panel and give testimony with regard to his responsibility as the Head of State and the Head of South Africa’s Executive with regard to the July 2022 unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng provinces,” Brooks said.
Ramaphosa joins a number of politicians that have appeared before the hearing panel and gave testimony of the events that took place in July.
