The Jacob Zuma Foundation, on Wednesday, told the media of the former President’s intention to oppose the recent urgent applications brought by journalists Billy Downer and Karyn Maughan against Zuma, scheduled to take place at the Pietermaritzburg High Court this Friday.
Downer and Maughan argue that the court must declare the judgement of 7 June not to be suspended despite the fact that an application for leave to appeal was submitted in terms of the Rules.
The Zuma Foundation spokesperson, Mzwanele Manyi, said Zuma opposes the application on the grounds that it is not urgent, it is premature, and that no exceptional circumstances have been established.
In addition, the foundation reminded applicants that accused persons have a duty to obey the postponement order issued by the criminal court judge in February to be present in court on 4 August 2023 or face arrest.
