The Democratic Alliance (DA) has asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to move John Steenhuisen out of the agriculture portfolio, less than a month after farmers won an interim court order allowing them to privately procure and administer Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccines.
DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis said on Wednesday he had written to Ramaphosa “setting out several changes to the Democratic Alliance’s representation in the National Executive” following “a careful assessment” of the party’s team in the Government of National Unity.
The proposed changes would see Willie Aucamp replace Hill-Lewis’s predecessor Steenhuisen as Minister of Agriculture, while Steenhuisen would move to the position of Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.
