The 2026 National Arts and Culture Awards at Sun City were not only a celebration of creative excellence but also a runway of fashion that fused heritage with bold couture.

Guests and honourees arrived in vibrant ensembles that echoed the evening’s theme, “Celebrating Our Nation’s Creative Excellence.”

Minister Gayton McKenzie reminded audiences that the Awards were about honouring both veterans and fresh talent.

He said the awards were a powerful reminder of the extraordinary depth of talent the country had.

“Honouring our veterans is important because we must never forget the people whose talent, sacrifice and hard work helped shape our cultural identity.”

That sentiment was mirrored in the multitude of outfits.

Traditional beadwork paired with modern tailoring, flowing gowns inspired by cultural memory, and daring silhouettes that spoke to a new generation of creatives were the statement and the theme, an anchor in the rich creativity South African artists could showcase.

Designer David Tlale, recognised with the Outstanding Fashion/Textile Designer Award, embodied this spirit with couture that blended luxury with African identity.

Meanwhile, performers and presenters added their own flair, with colourful prints, layered textures, and accessories that turned the red carpet into a cultural canvas.

The evening proved that the NACA stage is more than an awards platform but a runway of heritage, creativity, and national pride.
