ANC MP Mervyn Dirks has been suspended with immediate effect by the party after calling on the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) to haul President Cyril Ramaphosa over the coals for his remarks in the national executive committee (NEC) on the abuse of public funds.
ANC chief whip Pemmy Majodina is understood to have written to Dirks of the disciplinary charges against him.
The letter was written to Dirks on Thursday.
Dirks had written to Scopa to ask it to bring Ramaphosa before it to answer questions on state funds used for campaigning.
He wrote to Scopa chair Mkhuleko Hlengwa regarding the allegations, which could have resulted in Ramaphosa being brought before the committee.
In his letter to Hlengwa Dirks implies Ramaphosa might have committed perjury when he failed to alert the Zondo commission to his knowledge of allegations of abuse of state funds.
