THE City of Johannesburg’s council meeting has elected Al Jama-ah party’s councillor Thapelo Amad as the new executive mayor.
On Thursday, Mpho Phalatse of the DA was voted out of office through a motion of no confidence brought by Al Jama-ah, African Transformation Movement (ATM), and the African Independent Congress (AIC).
Amad, chairperson of Al Jama-ah Gauteng, secured 138 votes against Phalatse’s 81 votes.
Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA nominated councillor Funzela Ngobeni\. who only received 46 votes.
