ANC appoints Mahlengi Bhengu as new national spokesperson

THE chairperson of the Gauteng Partnership Fund and board member of the OR Tambo School of Leadership, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, is now the new ANC spokesperson.

She replaces the tough-talking Pule Mabe, who indicated his unavailability to continue the role as spokesperson in December 2022. 

Bhengu-Motsiri was elected in December as a member of the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during the party’s 55th National Conference held in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg. 

She was previously a member of the ANC Renewal Commission headed by Thoko Didiza. 

Bhengu-Motsiri served in the ANC Youth League with leaders such as David Makhura and Malusi Gigaba, and was the first female South African Student Congress (SASCO) Secretary0Generalm from 1992 to 1993.

Bhengu-Motsiri, who cut his teeth in student politics, was also the first Chairperson of the National Youth Commission in 1995.
