Gauteng MEC for Health Dr Bandile Masuku has send condolences to the family of Professor Bernard Janse van Rensburg, who died unexpectedly on Thursday.
Van Rensburg, who had immense wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field of psychiatry, was an Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand and Assistant Head of School of Clinical Medicine.
He was also a member of the Gauteng Clinical Governance Advisory Committee to the MEC for Health, and chairperson of the provincial Mental Health Technical Advisory Committee.
Masuku said Van Rensburg was a formidable leader in his field, inspiring students, registrars and young consultants to excel in psychiatry through research and clinical practice.
”We have lost a mentor, an activist for mental health, leader and an academic who contributed immensely in the medical fraternity. On behalf of the Gauteng Health family I send heartfelt condolences to Prof Janse van Rensburg’s family, friends and his colleagues. He will be dearly missed” said Masuku.
Funeral arrangements for Professor Van Rensburg were yet to be announced at the time of going to press.
