ActionSA has terminated the membership of former Tshwane MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Kholofelo Morodi following an internal disciplinary process linked to allegations arising from testimony before the Madlanga Commission.
In a media statement on Saturday, ActionSA Gauteng provincial chairperson Funzi Ngobeni said the party’s provincial executive committee (PEC) had resolved to terminate Morodi’s membership after considering all submissions and evidence placed before it.
Morodi was removed from her position as MMC on Friday by Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya, following her suspension.
She was named at the commission in relation to allegations involving tenders and the sharing of internal tender documents with SAPS Organised Crime Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, who has also been linked in testimony to attempted murder-accused businessman Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
“This matter underscores the importance of acting decisively where concerns arise. ActionSA will not hesitate to act where the conduct of its members undermines the integrity of the Party or the public institutions it seeks to strengthen,” Ngobeni said.
He said the decision followed a “fair” and “procedurally sound process”.
Ngobeni said Morodi was formally notified of the allegations against her, given an opportunity to respond, and granted an extension before ultimately being afforded a 72-hour period to make final representations.
“The PEC considered all submissions received before arriving at its decision,” Ngobeni said.
The party said the disciplinary process focused on “conduct deemed inconsistent with its values, constitution, and code of conduct, including provisions in ActionSA’s interim constitution dealing with behaviour that could bring the organisation into disrepute”.
“ActionSA takes matters of integrity, accountability and ethical conduct with the utmost seriousness, particularly where public office and public trust are concerned. Members of ActionSA are held to these standards without exception,” Ngobeni said.
