The chairperson of Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations of police corruption, Soviet Lekganyane, has rejected concerns raised by uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) MP Vusi Shongwe that allegations against committee members could undermine the credibility of its report.
The exchange took place on Thursday as the committee resumed virtual deliberations on its fourth draft report, with Shongwe questioning whether MPs who had been mentioned or implicated in evidence before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry should continue participating in drafting the report.
Shongwe said he was concerned that the committee could end up adopting a report involving members who might themselves be implicated in matters under investigation.
“Chair, I worry because we have implicated members amongst us whom we don’t know whether they are criminally involved or not,” Shongwe said.
