The ANC in Gauteng has expressed condolences following the untimely death of its provincial spokesperson, Mzikayifani Elias Khumalo, describing his passing as a loss to the organisation and the broader movement.
Khumalo, 54, reportedly collapsed and fell down the stairs at his home in Willowbrook Estate, Ruimsig, Johannesburg.
He was rushed to hospital, where he later died.
In a statement on Monday, ANC acting national spokesperson Nonceba Mhlauli described Khumalo as a committed member who served the party and the public by articulating its policies, decisions and programmes with discipline.
“Throughout these responsibilities, Comrade Mzi remained closely connected to the communities from which he emerged. His political life reflected a sustained commitment to the ANC and to the institutions of democratic local and provincial government,” she said.
Khumalo had a long career in public service, serving as speaker and later executive mayor of the former Randfontein
