High profile cases dominate courts on Wednesday

South Africa’s courts face a high-stakes day on Wednesday as four politically charged cases involving senior police figures, alleged underworld networks, extortion, municipal corruption and an MP accused of abusing his office return to courtrooms across the country.

In Pretoria, suspended National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court alongside alleged underworld figure Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala and other accused linked to the alleged irregular awarding of a SAPS contract to Matlala’s Medicare24 Tshwane District.
