Durban’s ICC came alive on Saturday night as the 20th Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs) crowned South Africa’s finest talents.


The ceremony, hosted by Lerato Kganyago and Lawrence Maleka, marked the station’s 40th anniversary and delivered unforgettable performances from DJ Tira, Nomfundo Hlophe, Shandesh, and Nkosazana.
The night belonged to Ciza, who walked away with Artist of the Year and Best Male Artist, cementing his place as one of Mzansi’s biggest stars.



Shandesh dazzled with her win as Best Female Artist, while Kharishma claimed Best New Artist and added sparkle to the Lekompo category.
Thukuthela and Jazzworld stole the spotlight, scooping three major awards: Best Produced Album, Best Dance, and Best Duo or Group, proving their dominance in the dance and collaborative scene.
The awards also honored legends:
Wilson B Nkosi received a standing ovation for the Long Service Award, recognizing his decades of contribution to Metro FM and the music industry.

Maskandi icon Bheki “Ihashi Elimhlophe” Ngobo was celebrated with the Lifetime Achievement Award, a tribute to his journey from a homemade tin guitar to national acclaim.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo added another accolade as Global Icon, alongside their collaboration win for You Make Me Happy.


The night closed with Umafikizolo’s “Uyoncengwa Unyoko” crowned Song of the Year, a fitting finale to a celebration of South African music excellence.
