KwaZulu-Natal’s Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has taken over the investigation into the murder of ANC eThekwini councillor Sibusiso Khwela, who was shot dead while working at his office in Klaarwater on Thursday.
Police confirmed late on Thursday that the specialist team would lead the investigation into the killing of Khwela, the councillor for Ward 17 in eThekwini.
“The PKTT will lead and coordinate the investigation, with PKTT detectives already on the ground to ensure that those responsible for this senseless murder are identified, arrested and brought before the courts,” police said in a statement.
The eThekwini Municipality said Khwela was gunned down by an unknown assailant while assisting residents from his Klaarwater office.
Council Speaker Thabani Nyawose visited Khwela’s family, and described him as a disciplined and selfless councillor who had put the interests of his community first.
