FORMER Arsenal star Paul Merson has told manager Mikel Arteta to apologise to Mesut Ozil and bring him back into the side.

The German midfielder was snubbed for both the Premier League and Europa League squads at the start of the season while he did not feature in the League Cup.

After failing to win their last four Premier League encounters, the Gunners have been criticised for a lack of attacking quality in the midfield.

Merson feels the German World Cup winner, who is the club’s highest-paid player, should be in the squad.

“Arsenal could still be playing Tottenham NOW and they wouldn’t have scored a goal,” said Merson in his Daily Star column.

“What can they do in January to fix it? Go and knock on Mesut Ozil’s door, say you’re sorry and you need him to play!

“Arsenal were atrocious against Spurs. They never looked like scoring. Ozil’s getting £350,000-a-week and sitting at home while his team can’t score.”
