The case against musician and television personality Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been postponed to August 24.
Maarohanye appeared briefly in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday as investigations continue into an alleged confrontation with an e‑hailing driver earlier this month.
Police allege that on Sunday, 14 June, in Edenvale, Maarohanye confronted an e‑hailing driver moments after the driver dropped off a female passenger. He allegedly accused the driver of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.

According to initial police reports, Maarohanye forced the driver into a vehicle and fired a shot in his direction. The driver escaped unharmed and reported the matter immediately. A pellet gun was later recovered from Maarohanye’s home.
He was arrested on Sunday morning, 15 June, but did not appear in court the following day due to ongoing investigations. With Tuesday being a public holiday, June 16, his legal team filed an urgent bail application at the Johannesburg High Court, securing his release on R5,000 bail.
Police initially charged him with kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s latest court roll lists only one count of pointing “something likely to lead a person to believe it is a firearm.”
Prosecutors have not clarified whether the kidnapping and firearm discharge charges have been dropped or remain under investigation.
Jub Jub was convicted in 2012 for a drag‑racing accident that killed four schoolchildren. His murder conviction was reduced to culpable homicide, and he was released on parole in 2017.

In 2024, separate charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault, dating back to complaints between 2006 and 2010, were withdrawn.
Court sources suggest today’s appearance in Court D may be brief, focusing on clarifying the charges and outlining the next steps in the investigation.
