FORMER North West Human Settlement, Safety, and Liaison Nono Maloyi has been elected the new ANC provincial chairperson on Monday morning.
The results were announced on Monday morning at the Rustenburg Civic Centre where the party’s ninth provincial conference is being held.
Maloyi beat his counterpart and current North West premier Bushy Maape by 76 votes following a fierce conference which nearly collapsed due to disagreements over credentials.
Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi was elected Maloyi’s deputy.
Louis Diremelo was elected the new provincial secretary, while Viola Motsumi was elected deputy secretary.
The new provincial Treasurer is Sello Lehari.
Maloyi’s election as ANC Chairperson comes despite culpable homicide charges being levelled against him.
In 2018, while still the Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) of Human Settlements, Maloyi was involved in a car accident that killed one person and injured another.
It is alleged that he was travelling at a high speed on the N12 between Klerksdorp and Stilfontein.
