Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili says police arrested more than 900 people for offences linked to public disorder, vandalism and other criminal activity, including contraventions of the Immigration Act, during nationwide anti-illegal immigration protests on Tuesday.
Mosikili, who also chairs the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS), briefed the media in Pretoria on Wednesday on the 30 June demonstrations, saying some individuals had attempted to exploit the protests to commit crimes.

“Our members remained swiftly where ever incidents of looting, robbery, public violence and other criminal activities emerged. More than 900 persons were arrested during yesterday’s operations,” she said.
