THE ANC has assembled a team of negotiators led by Treasurer General Paul Mashatile and Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte to drive coalition talks with other political parties.
This comes after over 60 municipalities across the country ended without a clear victor in the 2021 local government elections.
In a statement released on Sunday, the ANC said it was a common denominator in all these hung municipalities.
“The ANC believes that with our maturing democracy, there is a need to look beyond party confines to service our people,” said ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe.
“We believe that in exercising their will, the people of South Africa have imposed on all parties to work together and take the country forward. This forms part of an established and increasingly new condition for most municipalities.”
Mabe said the negotiating team met with some political parties on Saturday and is prepared to meet with other parties
