International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola has expressed his sadness at the passing of South Africa’s ambassador to the Ivory Coast, Zolani Mtshotshisa.

He died in hospital in South Africa.

The minister said Mtshotshisa was devoted to the maintenance of good political, diplomatic, economic and people-to-people ties between South Africa and Côte d’Ivoire.

“Ambassador Mtshotshisa worked tirelessly to promote South Africa’s engagements with Côte d’Ivoire, including facilitating the November 2023 re-launch of SAA’s Johannesburg to Abidjan route,” said Lamola said in a statement on Friday.

Mtshotshisa was an activist in the Black Consciousness Movement with Steve Biko before joining the African National Congress.
