THE Special Investigating Unit (SIU) investigators have raided offices of the National Lottery Commission (NLC) in Hatfield, Pretoria, after obtaining a search-and-seizure warrant on Monday.
The raid is a joint operation between the Special Investigating Unit and the Hawks.
The investigation is looking into, among other matters, serious maladministration in connection with the affairs of the NLC.
On the 6th of November, President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a proclamation which authorised the SIU to investigate alleged corruption and malfeasance at the NLC.
Last month, the Democratic Alliance (DA) called on Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel to fire the NLC and its board and place the organisation under administration, considering the volume of evidence in the public domain, but on each occasion “he has refused to do so”.
