Police have confirmed the discovery of the body of a woman inside Mooifontein Cemetery in Tembisa South on Saturday morning, 26 September 2026.
The body was found in the Vusimusi section of Tembisa South, near an informal settlement. Initial reports indicate that the victim was found half-naked inside the cemetery.
Police spokesperson Brenda Muridili said police were still in the early stages of their investigation.
“At this stage, we can only confirm the discovery of the body. Crime scene management and all the necessary role players are currently on the scene. Further information will be provided as soon as preliminary investigations have been conducted,” Muridili said.

Police forensic teams and crime scene investigators remained at the scene on Saturday as investigations continued.
The latest discovery adds to growing concerns over the safety of women in Gauteng. The woman is reportedly the 10th female victim whose body has been found in the Ekurhuleni area in recent weeks. Overall, 10 bodies have been discovered across Gauteng during the same period, prompting public concern.

The deaths have once again thrust South Africa’s gender-based violence crisis into the spotlight, despite ongoing government commitments to address the issue and its declaration as a national disaster last year.
Police have appealed for patience as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
