Former president Jacob Zuma plans to speak to his lawyers following the African National Congress’ National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal upholding his expulsion on Friday.
The committee found that by forming and leading the uMkhonto weSizwe Party, Zuma abandoned the core values of organisational loyalty and collective accountability, converting himself into a tool for destabilisation.
In reaction, the Jacob Zuma Foundation said that the MK Party leader strongly rejected the notion that the ANC under the leadership of President Cyril Ramaphosa has the authority to expel him from the movement, which he had dedicated his life to.
Zuma was a member of the ANC for 65 years.
“In the coming days, H.E. President Zuma will consult with his legal team, his ANC representative, Cde Tony Yengeni, his family and his political comrades to deliberate on the way forward. Once a decision has been reached, it will be communicated to the nation by H.E. President Zuma,” the foundation said in a statement.
It said that in the meantime Zuma remained fully engaged in his political and social commitments, which included presiding over the two-day meeting of the MK Party’s national high command.
On Saturday, he attended the funeral of six MK women members who died in an accident while traveling to Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.
