The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR), together with industry partners, has announced funding commitments exceeding R2 billion to support junior mining companies and formalise South Africa’s artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
Speaking at the Youth in Mining Convention and the launch of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Skills Partnership Programme at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sandton on Friday, Deputy Minister Phumzile Mgcina said the convention provided an important platform for government to engage young people on expanding their participation in the mining industry and the broader economy.
“This convention is taking place at an opportune moment, as South Africa marks 30 years of our Constitution – a democratic compact founded on the principles of human dignity, equality, freedom and justice for all,” Mgcina said.
