Prominent forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan faced a barrage of questioning from Parliamentarians before the Ad Hoc Committee on why he did not want to disclose certain details concerning his background, family, and other details before 1990.
O’Sullivan made it clear that he would not engage in family or business discussions prior to 1990 as a safety measure.
It was the EFF’s Julius Malema among Parliament members who questioned why paragraph three in O’Sullivan’s testimony was allowed and had to be removed.

“We cannot have a witness who states to us which questions to ask and which not to ask,” Malema probed.
“This paragraph must be removed,” Malema said, demanding the removal of the paragraph O’ Sullivan made.
“How do we treat paragraph three?” quested the EFF leader.
O’Sullivan appeared in person on Tuesday, after initially refusing to do so.

In his defense, he argued he wanted to protect his family following numerous attempts on his life.
“You can ask me a million questions. I’m entitled to protect my family’s interest, and I intend to do that,” said O’Sullivan.
“We can sit here the whole day i’m not going to say anything about anything that happened before 1990,” he said.
Malema contended by questioning whether there were key matters that occurred before 1990 that could demonstrate that O’Sullivan could have captured the criminal justice system before 1990
O’Sullivan has been heavily implicated by witnesses, notably KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who accused him of capturing IPID, directing investigations, and acting behind the scenes to manipulate law enforcement for his own purposes.
He drew scrutiny by initially refusing to appear in person, calling the proceedings a “circus,” and stating he would not recognize certain political parties on the committee.
The committee is specifically investigating allegations that private individuals, including O’Sullivan, have infiltrated and exerted improper influence within the criminal justice system.
