Television personality and musician Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice following an alleged altercation with an e-hailing driver in Edenvale on Sunday morning.
Police said the 45-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident, which allegedly occurred around 07:30 when an e-hailing driver dropped off a female passenger at a residence in Edenvale.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Maarohanye allegedly confronted the driver, accusing him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.
Police allege Maarohanye then forced the driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving the scene.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
The driver escaped unharmed and reported the matter at a nearby police station.
“Police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Investigations are continuing,” Mathe said.
Maarohanye is expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice.
