Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ) says the Little Falls Resort swimming pool in Roodepoort is due to reopen on 1 October, a month later than the city’s normal summer swimming season, but the opening remains subject to the appointment of lifeguards and cashiers.
The city has postponed the opening of its public swimming pools from 1 September to 1 October to allow outstanding maintenance, compliance and safety work to be completed. It had also run out of pool chemicals.
Thirty-six municipal pools are scheduled to reopen in phases during October.
On Tuesday, JCPZ said Little Falls Resort was ready to welcome families and visitors seeking an affordable day out as summer approaches.

“The park is open seven days a week from 08:00 to 18:00, while the swimming pool will be accessible six days a week, from Tuesday to Sunday,” JCPZ said.
“Mondays will be dedicated to intensive pool cleaning, water treatment, and maintenance, helping to ensure that the pool remains clean, safe, and ready for swimmers throughout the summer season.”
JCPZ said in its Tuesday statement that swimming would start at 10:00 on pool operating days, allowing lifeguards and operational teams time to undertake routine morning inspections and safety checks.
It said the last admission to the resort would be at 16:00, with the pool closing at 17:00 and the resort at 18:00.
It said it currently had sufficient pool chemicals in storage and was procuring additional supplies required for the summer season.
Little Falls Resort is an entrance-fee facility, with adults paying R70 and children R30. Children under six enter free.

Pensioners pay R30, while welfare groups and students with a valid student card pay R30 on weekdays.
Parking costs R20 for cars and minivans and R30 for buses. Picnic stalls cost R200.
The resort operates as a cashless facility, with debit and credit cards and mobile payments accepted, while EFT is available for bookings and group reservations.
“The resort is particularly suited to families, with monitored access by lifeguards on duty during swimming hours and security personnel at the facility,” JCPZ said.
“For everyone’s safety, glass bottles and glass containers are not permitted. All liquids brought into the resort must be decanted into suitable non-glass containers. Visitors are also reminded that dogs are not permitted at the resort.”
