Deputy President Paul Mashatile said on Tuesday that he was recovering well after undergoing a minor medical procedure but would remain off normal duties until his doctors advised otherwise.

“On the advice of my doctors, I will continue resting until advised otherwise,” he said.
The update follows weeks of uncertainty over Mashatile’s health and absence from public engagements after he became unwell at his home in Johannesburg.
The Presidency first publicly announced his recovery on 4 August, saying he had undergone a minor surgical procedure. President Cyril Ramaphosa visited Mashatile that afternoon.
In August, Mashatile’s office said he remained in contact with officials and had participated in parliamentary proceedings and other important meetings through virtual platforms, while recovering.
In his statement on Tuesday, Mashatile thanked his family and the medical team caring for him, as well as staff in his office, government and ANC colleagues, Ramaphosa and South Africans who had sent him messages of support.

“Your prayers and encouragement have been a source of strength,” Mashatile said.
“I assure you that I remain dedicated to the responsibilities entrusted to me, and I look forward to returning to my duties in full, serving our nation with renewed energy and commitment.”
